ALPHA USERS: FROM ALPHA TO BETA
Hello ~okeanos alpha users,
as you already know the ~okeanos alpha phase has ended successfully and we are now getting ready to launch our public beta for the whole Greek research and academic community.
When ~okeanos goes beta, everybody will gain access using their Academic credentials a.k.a the username/password provided by their academic or research institution.
But before we go there, the first thing we need to do is take care of the loyal users that have stayed with us since alpha and prepare a smooth transition to beta for them.
So, if you are an ... read moreposted by July 11, 2013, 12:18 p.m., filed under all , news , spotlight , ~okeanos

Hi all,
Some of you may have already noticed that a new "Projects" tab has popped up on your Dashboard. Let's see what this is all about.
Projects such as assignments, exercises and research experiments are quite common in academia. Most of the time, they rely heavily on the computing, network and storage resources at hand; resources that you may not have, or that is difficult to reserve for your colleagues or students.
Unsuprisingly, for a while now we have been receiving requests such as:
"Can I have more VMs to share with my students for a CPU-intensive semester ... read more

INTRODUCING ARCHIPELAGO
When it comes to pushing the boundaries of speed, one has to rethink the basic concepts of the backend storage technology. And if we want to talk about cloud elasticity, one has to wonder:
How can I spawn a VM with 100GB System Disk in seconds?
Or a cluster of 100 VMs in a few minutes?
Well, enter Archipelago, a new, innovative Storage Backend for your VM data. Archipelago literally means "a cluster of islands", distinct from one another yet often with the same culture and morphology.
